Governor John Bel Edwards is about to wrap up the third year of his first term in office and is noting Louisiana's successes during 2018.
The Democrat held a year-end news conference Thursday where he noted that Louisiana's economy is now bigger than ever.
Edwards says the state budget is no longer mired in red ink thanks to legislative action adjusting the state sales tax upward ahead of a scheduled drop this past July to 4%.
He says increasing teacher pay is his top goal next year as he faces a re-election bid against at least two Republicans.
