Orleans Parish School Board Has New Plan To Address Mental Health

Orleans Parish School Board officials have a new plan to address mental health.

School board officials say 60% of children suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder in New Orleans, making them four-and-a-half times more likely than their peers across the nation to show signs of serious emotional issues.

Schools are partnering with the Center for Resilience, a day treatment program in Louisiana, to provide academic and mental health services to students with significant behavioral struggles.

Students will receive free academic instruction, medical care and specialized therapy to address particular mental health issues.
