New Orleans police say that 45 suspected criminals are under arrest following a roundup labeled "Operation New Year Clean Sweep."
Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson made the announcement yesterday saying the effort targeted some of the city's "most violent" criminals. They included the arrests of two men wanted in recent murders and others sought for other shootings, attempted murders and armed robberies.
Ferguson says because of such efforts, the murder rate since the first of the year is about half what it was during the same period last year.
