The Bureau of Governmental Research has a new plan on a way to reform the way the city imposes hotel taxes.

After a year-long study, the group has released a report on the city's multi-layered hotel tax. New Orleans allocates only 9% of the almost $200 million of tax revenue to municipal purposes, which falls more than 60% below cities like Boston and San Francisco.

The group is called for a one-cent sales tax for municipal needs to be re-imposed.
