The results of two teacher pay raise proposals at opposite ends of the state can't help but draw your attention.

Local elections were held across Louisiana on Saturday. In Bossier Parish, close to 75% of those who turned out voted against a 23-mill hike that would have boosted teacher pay by $7,200 a year.

However, in Jefferson Parish 72% of voters gave a thumbs-up to hiking property taxes by $28 million to increase the starting pay of teachers an additional $5,000 to $46,000 a year.
