Fetal Heartbeat Abortion Bill Clears Louisiana Senate

The Louisiana House is the next stop for legislation that would ban abortions in the state once a fetal heartbeat is detected.

That usually happens six weeks into a pregnancy.

The legislation authored by Democratic Senator John Milkovich won Senate approval yesterday on a 31-5 vote.

Even if it becomes law, it won't take effect until similar legislation approved in Mississippi wins the approval of a federal appeals court.
