Mayor Announces Study To Address Abandoned Six Flags And Jazzland Location

Mayor LaToya Cantrell says she is waiting on the results of a study on how best to address the abandoned Six Flags and Jazzland amusement park site.

Cantrell said yesterday that she and Councilwoman Cindy Nguyen were waiting for the study on the almost 200-acre property to be completed in the next two to three weeks before moving forward.

Nguyen said she has been working on a plan to turn the former park in New Orleans East into a family entertainment district with hotels, resorts, and venues for sports and music.

Six Flags New Orleans has been closed since 2005 shortly after Hurricane Katrina submerged the entire site with storm surge from Lake Pontchartrain.
