Army Corps Putting Sandbags In Low Levee Spots

The Army Corps of Engineers is working to shore up low levees with extra sandbags.

The Mississippi River is predicted to reach 20 feet later this week due to storm surge and was recorded at 16 feet yesterday at the Carrollton Gauge in New Orleans.

Crews are deploying sandbags to add height to low areas in an attempt to combat possible splash over.

Officials have also begun closing flood gates from the Industrial Canal to the French Quarter.
