City Approves Solar Power Plant in New Orleans East

Solar Panels in Dim Light

The city is taking a step toward a more-sustainable future.

A City Council committee has approved plans by Entergy New Orleans to build a $42 million solar power plant in New Orleans East.

With a plan to buy power from solar plants in St. James and Washington parishes, Entergy will add 90 megawatts of renewable energy to the city's electricity grid.

Renewables will account for almost 10 percent of the local company's total power generation, 20 times more than today.
