Longtime Louisiana State Senator John Alario Announces Retirement

One of the longest-serving politicians in the Louisiana Senate is retiring.

Senate President John A. Alario Junior announced yesterday he was retiring after 48 years in the Louisiana State Legislature.

Alario was first elected to the Louisiana House in 1972 and has served as both Senate President and Speaker of the House.

Alario said he plans to spend more time with his family and the community during the next phase of his life.
