Medical marijuana is being dispensed today in Louisiana, after a four year wait. Louisiana became the first in the Deep South to create a framework for legalization, but the state's program has faced multiple delays, forcing patients to wait for the drug to reach the market. However, one of the state's two growers will release the first round of marijuana tincture bottles to pharmacies. Medical marijuana has actually been legal in the state since 1991, but framework for dispensing didn't exist until 2015.
