Jefferson Parish Sheriff Accuses Political Opponent Of Bribery

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto is accusing his political opponent of attempting to bribe his way onto the Causeway Commission.

Lopinto made his accusation yesterday shortly after John Fortunato qualified to run for sheriff in the next election.

Lopinto says Fortunato was reported to the FBI and the Louisiana Attorney General when he offered to not run for sheriff if he was named Causeway Bridge Police Chief.

Fortunato responded to the allegations by calling them a desperate tactic by Lopinto to cover his poor record as sheriff.
