City Of Gretna Looking At Animal Ordinance Following Vicious Dog Attacks

"Beware of Dog" sign

A new amendment to an animal ordinance in Gretna is being approved to deal with violent dog attacks.

The City Council unanimously approved the change which will now allow the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter to detain a violent animal that has attacked another animal.

Gretna has seen several dog attacks in recent weeks, including one where a housecat was killed and another where a Postal Worker was bitten on the head.

Gretna Mayor Belinda Constant says she will sign off on the new ordinance in the next few days.
