Court Rules NOLA Must Refund Millions In Red Light Camera Tickets

Traffic lights over blue sky

The City of New Orleans may have to pay back a large sum of money to motorists who were previously fined.

An appeals court upheld an earlier judgment against the city that red light citations issued to more than 200,000 drivers were invalid because they were handled by the department of Public Works instead of police.

The citations were all issued between 2008 and 2010.

The judge in the case ruled the city "shall immediately refund" the fines and fees because it was a class action lawsuit.
