Louisiana OMV To Remain Closed On Thursday In Wake Of Cyber Attack

Malware Abstract

Officials say the Louisiana Office of Motor vehicles will be closed on Thursday because of a ransomware attack.

State cyber officials said yesterday that Monday's attack had been caught early, but the cleanup of the servers is taking some time.

A ransomware attack happens when a virus locks users out of their computer, and the hackers then demand a ransom payment to unlock the system.

The state's Chief Information Security Officer says 132 of 5,000 servers were hit, and around 1,600 of nearly 35,000 work stations had been compromised and were being cleaned and updated.
