S&WB Looking At New Backup Plans Following Turbine Explosion

Officials at the Sewerage and Water Board say they are monitoring possible storm events closely following the explosion of two turbines over the weekend.

S&WB Director Ghassan Korban confirmed yesterday that the explosion happened at the Uptown power generating plant when turbine number five failed while trying to compensate when turbine number four went offline.

Korban says crews hope to have turbine number four up soon, but damage to number five is considered to be serious.

Korban said he believes the city can withstand the expected rainfall on Monday night, but residents should be prepared for a worst-case scenario until backup systems are restored.
