State legislators are trying to lower car insurance rates.

Officials announced yesterday that six bills have been drafted that aim to reduce rates by either adding incentive to reach court settlements after an accident or restricting how insurance companies calculate their rates.

The proposals come after a recent study showed that Louisiana residents pay the second-highest coverage in the nation, spending roughly $2,300 each year.

The bills will be addressed during the 2020 legislative session which begins in March.
