Hospitality Workers March Into City Hall To Demand Emergency Sick Pay

Sick Leave

A group representing hospitality workers in the Greater New Orleans Region is demanding the city help provide them with emergency health assistance.

Around a dozen protestors walked into Mayor LaToya Cantrell's office yesterday to ask for paid sick leave so they can financially afford to stay home if they are sick and limit the spread of illness to customers and co-workers.

Workers in the hospitality industry include servers, cooks, bartenders, and other entertainment or restaurant staff and have some of the most direct contact with the public.

Cantrell expressed sympathy with the group but said there is little her office can do to overrule the policies put in place by private businesses.
