Louisiana Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin is asking for a delay of the state's presidential primary due to coronavirus concerns.

Originally scheduled for April 4, Ardoin is recommending the primary be moved to June 20 and municipal elections scheduled for May 9 take place on July 25.

The Advocate reports that Gov. John Bel Edwards will grant the delay via executive order on Friday, with a spokesperson saying it's "extraordinary measure, but one we feel is prudent."

Louisiana is the first state to postpone a presidential primary due to the coronavirus.

There are 33 presumptive positive coronavirus cases in Louisiana as of Friday morning out of 94 residents tested.
