New Orleans Jazz Legend Ellis Marsalis Passes Away At Age 85

The music world is mourning the loss of jazz legend Ellis Marsalis, Jr., who passed away on Wednesday at age 85.

Marsalis was known for his brand of modern jazz and as the patriarch of a New Orleans musical family with four of his six sons Branford, Wynton, Delfeayo, and Jason, all becoming renowned jazz musicians.

The elder Marsalis had been hospitalized and tested for the coronavirus, but the results were not available at the time of his death.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell released a statement saying the loss of the jazz icon cuts the city deeply.
