Protesters Block Traffic On I-10 For Over An Hour Tuesday Night

I-10 near downtown New Orleans is open again after being blocked for almost two hours on Tuesday night by protesters.

The highway between Tulane and Esplanade Avenue was closed down shortly after 8 p.m. as police blocked traffic to allow hundreds of demonstrators to walk without fear of being hit by cars.

Around 9 p.m. authorities told the crowds they could continue to march but had to leave the interstate with groups slowly dispersing onto Orleans Avenue.

In a showing of unity, several NOPD members knelt with protesters, and Chief Deputy Superintendent John Thomas used a bullhorn to communicate messages of support.
