State Senator Cleo Fields is asking for state education leaders to suspend high school athletic events for the fall semester amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
In a letter to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Louisiana School Boards Association, Fields urged for the suspension of all athletic activities that involve in-person participation by students in a group setting for the upcoming fall semester.
He also suggested the Louisiana School Boards Association ask local school boards and superintendents to voluntarily suspend fall athletic activities.
The proposed suspension will be discussed further at the BESE meeting which is scheduled for July 14th.
