Chief Of Louisiana Democratic Party Steps Down

New Orleans Senator Karen Carter Peterson is ending her tenure as the head of the Louisiana Democratic Party.

On Thursday, the party issued Peterson's announcement that she would not seek a third term as party chairman.

In a statement, Peterson said that she felt it was time to pass the torch after eight years as chief.

Despite stepping down as head of LDP, Peterson will continue her role as the Democratic National Committee Vice Chair of Civic Engagement and Voter Participation, which deals with voter registration and suppression efforts.
