Jefferson Parish School Board To Consider Delaying Start Of School

In light of the recent surge in coronavirus cases, Jefferson Parish public schools might push the start of the school year back a week.

The Jefferson Parish School Board says they will consider the measure in a meeting scheduled for today after teachers and parents expressed worry about sending children back to school.

Jefferson school officials have said they are considering three possible scenarios for the upcoming school year but if this measure is approved, students in grades 1st through 12th would report for their first day on August 12 instead of its original August 6 start date.

Jefferson Parish has over 11,000 reported cases of coronavirus.
