Residents in the French Quarter are up-in-arms as city officials aim to make the historic neighborhood more pedestrian friendly.

Locals gathered at the meet-and-greet-style protest staged on Saturday to advocate against making the French Quarter more pedestrian-friendly.

According to officials, in one proposal the city envisions includes a pedestrian mall stretching from North Rampart to Jackson Square, while the other proposal would create a larger pedestrian mall at night by banning vehicles on Chartres, Royal, Bourbon, Conti and Iberville after 5 p.m.

Officials say they are weeks away from making a decision and say the final plan must be approved by the City Council.
