After a downward trend, hospitalizations saw a slight increase in Monday's COVID-19 update from the Louisiana Department of Health.

LDH said the number of patients being treated for the coronavirus stood at 1,226, an increase of 30 from Sunday.

Those on ventilators fell by five to 184.

There were 735 new cases reported, bringing the state's running tally of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began to 138,485 after the daily removal of newly discovered duplicates and out-of-state cases.

State health officials said the collection dates for most of the new cases fell between August 10 and August 17, with 85% blamed on community spread and 28% involved those aged 29 and younger.

The total death count was 4,403, up 19 from Sunday.

More detailed information is available on the Louisiana Department of Health's online COVID-19 dashboard.

Gov. John Bel Edwards will update the state's fight against the coronavirus on Tuesday.
