LDH: Just Over 1,000 Currently Hospitalized For COVID-19 In Louisiana

The number of patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 continued to fall in Thursday's update from the Louisiana Department of Health.

It stood at 1,087, a decrease of 73 from Wednesday. The number of patients on ventilators rose slightly to 178, an increase of 3.

LDH reported an additional 1,034 cases, which brought the running total of cases statewide since the pandemic began to 140,821 after the daily removal of newly identified duplicates and out of state cases.

According to a tweet from the department, most of the new cases (97%) were collected between August 13 and August 20, with 91% blamed on community spread.

Those 18 to 29 years old made up 20% of the new cases, with the next second-highest percentage (15%) involving those 18 and under.

The death toll from the coronavirus as of Thursday was 4,496 after 28 additional deaths were reported.
