Jefferson Davis Parkway in New Orleans is getting a New name following a unanimous vote last night by the City Council.

In a 7-0 decision, the council approved renaming the roadway after Dr. Norman Francis.

Originally called Hagan Avenue, the name was changed to honor the only president of the Confederacy in 1910.

The street will now honor former Xavier University President Dr. Norman Francis, who helped rebuild the city after Hurricane Katrina and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush.
