Death Count From COVID-19 In Louisiana Now Over 5,000

Louisiana has had over 5,000 deaths blamed on COVID-19, as of Friday's update from the state Department of Health.

LDH reported an additional 41 deaths to bring the total count to 5,032 since the coronavirus struck Louisiana.

Officials also reported 844 additional cases of COVID-19, bringing the running total of cases to 156,174 after the daily removal of newly discovered duplicates and out of state cases.

Most of the new cases were collected between September 3 and September 10. 81% were blamed on community spread.

Hospitalizations fell by 39 to 723 statewide, with 117 of those patients on ventilators, a decrease of eight.

Louisiana entered Phase 3 of its reopening from COVID-19 Friday.
