A St. John the Baptist Parish judge who was convicted last month of sexual battery is resigning.

Officials confirmed yesterday that Jeffrey Perilloux sent his letter of resignation to Louisiana Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin last Monday.

Perilloux was seeking reelection as a Judge of the 40th District Court when he was found guilty of one count of misdemeanor sexual battery and three counts of felony indecent behavior with juveniles.

Attorneys for the former judge say he is planning on appealing his conviction.
