The City of New Orleans is announcing a series of furloughs and budget cuts to offset tax revenue losses caused by the pandemic.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell said yesterday that she would join nearly 4,000 city employees in taking six unpaid furlough days spread out through the remaining pay periods of the year.

The six-days off means city employees will lose about 10% of their overall total 2020 salaries.

The furloughs are expected to go into effect on October 10 and must still be approved by New Orleans' Civil Service Commission.
