New Orleans is now set to host the Super Bowl in 2025 instead of 2024.
The move was approved by the 32 NFL teams in a virtual meeting today.
The possibility of New Orleans hosting the event and it being pushed back a year was built into the original agreement when New Orleans 2024 bid was accepted back in 2018.
The NFL currently operates with a 16-game regular season but the new agreement signed this offseason introduced an extra regular-season game to schedule starting in 2021.
This extends the season by a week and causes a conflict between the game and carnival season in 2024.
The new host city for the 2024 Super Bowl has not yet been chosen.
