A state judge is siding with Gov. John Bel Edwards in a lawsuit challenging his orders to enforce social distancing and mask mandates.

During a public hearing held virtually on Thursday, Judge William Morvant sided with the Governor over Attorney General Jeff Landry, who represented a group of Republican lawmakers asking for the restrictions to be dropped.

The hearing was interrupted several times by the public, and the judge grew annoyed at the disturbances and noted on the record that he was not the one who invited the entire state to participate.

In his ruling in favor of the Governor, Judge Morvant asked both sides to prepare their appeals quickly since it was clear the case was heading to the state Supreme Court.
