Drew Brees Played Through Additional Unknown Injuries, Wife Says

Days after the Saints' run for the Super Bowl was cut short, Brittany Brees, wife of longtime New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, took to social media Wednesday (January 20) to reflect on a season filled with injuries and heartbreak. However, it wasn't a complete loss — after "crying for a few days," Brees said she was grateful for the year they had.

"This has been the hardest year of our lives, yet in some ways one of the best," Brees wrote on Instagram. "This year has shaped us and strengthened us. I has shown us what is truly important, and what is not."

Brees also revealed that the veteran QB experienced more injuries that were never reported, including playing the entire season, his 20th in the NFL, with a torn rotator cuff and torn fascia in his foot. As fans know, the quarterback missed several games last fall after sustaining 11 rib fractures and a collapsed lung. His wife praised his resilience, saying he "did not complain once."

"This is definitely not how I prayed this year would end and to say my heart is broken for you is an understatement but God's plans are always better," she wrote. "Your children have watched you handle it all with integrity, grace, and the most amazing work ethic."

She concluded message with a simple sentiment: "We [are] so proud of you."

It is believed that Brees will retire and become a sports analyst with NBC in 2022, WDSU reports, but no announcement has been made as of Wednesday afternoon.
