The Louisiana Department of Health reported 863 new COVID-19 cases Friday, which brought the running total of cases to 409,861.

The death toll rose by 32 to 9,076 on the state's coronavirus dashboard.

Hospitalizations were down by 20 to 1,275 while the number of patients on ventilators rose slightly by five to 167.

Gov. John Bel Edwards says LDH will begin doling out vaccines to people ages 65 and older on Monday.

Edwards confirmed Thursday that the addition of people between the ages of 65 and 69 would make nearly 275,000 more Louisianans eligible for vaccination.

Additionally, Edwards says that Walmart locations in Louisiana can begin administering vaccines on February 11 thanks to a new program put in place by the Biden administration.

The news comes as nearly 9% of Louisiana residents have already received at least one dose of the vaccine.
