Louisiana will have to wait a little longer before moving to the next phase of reopening.

On Tuesday, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced that he was extending the state's coronavirus restrictions for the next 21 days.

During the press conference, Edwards said case numbers are decreasing, but another surge is expected after discovering a U.K. variant of the virus in the state.

So far, health officials have confirmed five cases of the new strain, with 10 under investigation.
