Efforts to remove Governor John Bel Edwards from office over his coronavirus restrictions have failed.

Over the weekend, the Louisiana Secretary of State's Office announced that the petition to have Governor Edwards removed from office did not receive enough signatures.

According to reports, just over 26,000 signatures were recorded, but officials say that the number is far below what is needed to force a recall election as it needed 600,000.

The recall petition accused Edwards of "impeding the constitutional freedoms" by imposing the COVID-19 regulations and mandating masks.
