A new report from the National Education Association shows Louisiana pays its teachers more than only seven other states in the nation.

According to data released yesterday by the NEA, Louisiana's teachers make an average of $51,100 per year, while the national average stands at $65,100.

Louisiana pays its teachers less than neighbor Texas but more than Mississippi and Arkansas.

NEA President Becky Pringle said she worries the pandemic may have set the industry back from the modest gains it was making in boosting pay.
