Ochsner Health is beginning COVID-19 vaccine trials on children as young as six months old.

On Monday, Ochsner said its current trial for children between the ages of five and eleven had been extended to the younger age group.

Trial participants will receive two doses of a placebo or the vaccine in smaller doses than an adult about three weeks apart and then be monitored for 18 months.

The Pfizer vaccine is currently the only COVID-19 vaccine approved for children ages 12 and up.
