Gov. John Bel Edwards says Louisiana is facing a critical nursing shortage with thousands of positions available now.

According to data sent yesterday from the Louisiana Workforce Commission, there currently are over 6,000 open nursing jobs in the state.

Officials say the nursing shortage predates the pandemic, but the past year-and-a-half added to the crisis, with current nurses facing unprecedented levels of burnout and low morale.
