New Orleans city leaders are mourning the loss of a veteran NOPD officer killed in Houston, Texas over the weekend.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell, Councilman Jay Banks, and NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson spoke about Everett Briscoe as a celebrated community officer who had recently earned a degree from Southern University.

Briscoe was eating dinner with his family on the patio of the Grotto Ristorante restaurant when two armed suspects fired a gun after robbing a group of people nearby.

Houston Police said a second victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and the suspects remain at large.
