Governor John Bel Edwards is going ahead with a plan to add the coronavirus vaccine to the school immunization schedule in Louisiana.

Edwards announced his decision on Tuesday.

In doing so, Edwards is rejecting last week's decision by the House Committee on Health and Welfare not to require Louisiana students to be vaccinated against the virus.

The governor's office says all the opt-out provisions for parents are still in place, so no child will be vaccinated whose parents object to it in writing.
