The Louisiana Department of Health estimates that nearly 85% of the state's coronavirus cases are now the omicron variant.

The estimate is as of the week ending last Saturday.

Because of the rapid spread of the variant, Gov. John Bel Edwards extended Louisiana's Public Health Emergency Order, requiring all state employees, contractors and visitors to wear masks inside most state buildings.

LDH urges people to get vaccines and boosters, wear masks indoors around people who aren't in your household, and get tested before and after traveling, as well as before a gathering.
