City officials and Carnival Krewe leaders are focusing on public safety with the arrival of Carnival season.

At the final Mardi Gras Advisory Council meeting on Thursday, Mayor LaToya Cantrell said she was pleased with how the city is preparing for the season, as well as for Mardi Gras.

Because of a shortage of police manpower, parade routes have been shortened.

Ten extra ambulances will assist New Orleans EMS every day and pandemic precautions will still be in place.

The first float parade is the Krewe of Nefertiti on Sunday.
