The Louisiana Workforce Commission is initiating a program to ease the nationwide shortage of truck drivers.

The Drive Your Future program offers qualified applicants a five-week apprenticeship that leads to a commercial driver's license.

The state agency will pick up the cost of the training at accredited truck driving schools so students attend for free.

Starting pay for truckers ranges from $40,000 to $60,000 a year.

Classes start at the middle of this month.
