City and state police will be more visible during Mardi Gras in order to enhance public safety.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson says the NOPD is ready for Mardi Gras.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell says the department is 270 officers short, but the Police Association of New Orleans says it's more than twice that number.

Starting Friday at 7 a.m., New Orleans officers will go to 12-hour shifts, which will continue until Wednesday, March 2nd.

The Louisiana State Police are sending 100 troopers to town as well.
