The Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola is moving hundreds of inmates to another facility because of staffing shortages.

Over the next few months, 602 inmates at Angola will be transferred to the Allen Correctional Center in Kinder, near Lake Charles.

That number amounts to about 12% of Angola's 5,100 inmates.

State prison officials say it's difficult to recruit staff at Angola's rural location in West Feliciana Parish, especially for a starting pay of just over $15 an hour.
