Former state Senator Karen Carter Peterson is reportedly the subject of a federal investigation.
The New Orleans Democrat resigned from her District 5 seat on Friday following a 23-year career in the state legislature.
Peterson spoke to the Senate on Thursday, telling of her struggle with gambling addiction and depression for her entire legislative career
The federal probe is reportedly financial in nature and related to Peterson's gambling problem.
