New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is vetoing a City Council ordinance to place a particular measure on the ballot.

The proposed ordinance would empower the city's voters to decide whether the council's confirmation would be required for certain executive branch appointments.

Mayor Cantrell announced the veto on Tuesday via social media.

The City Council will discuss the provisions for overriding a mayoral veto when they meet next week.
