The New Orleans City Council is overriding a recent veto by Mayor Latoya Cantrell.
The vote was five-to-two on Thursday to override Cantrell's veto of an ordinance the council passed, calling for a November election on a proposal to give the council confirmation authority for mayoral appointees.
The mayor opposes the change in the city charter, which political observers say would weaken the mayor's office.
